| Purple Urkle strain - Purple Urkle
Purple Urkle Strain also known as Purple Urkle history is as complex as its flavor palate. A California strain, the origins are believed to stem from a select phenotype of Mendocino Purps, while the essence is a blend of skunk, berry, and fresh grapes. Consumers report the effects to be deeply relaxing, sleep-inducing, and a great option for full-body pain relief. The short onset of effects makes it a perfect nighttime strain for those who suffer from insomnia.
Not much is known about Purple Urkle strain origin story, except that it first appeared in the 1980s. Some online sources claim that the cultivar’s heritage can be traced back to Mendocino Purps, a well-known cannabis strain produced in Northern California’s Emerald Triangle. Others speculate that Purple Urkle strain could be a phenotype of either Mendocino Purps or Granddaddy Purple. Regardless of its origin, Purple Urkle strain resplendent purple coloring, due to a healthy amount of anthocyanins, undoubtedly contributed to its name.
Lab tests indicate larger percentages of the terpene myrcene contribute to Purple Urkle strain earthy, musky aromas, while the presence of alpha-pinene counteracts the terpene’s more sedative effects. Users compliment Purple Urkle strain for its berry flavors and its impressive THC content, which clocks in between 17-22%, depending on grow conditions.
About Purple Urkle
Purple Urkle strain is perhaps one of the most famous Indica strains around yet its origins are still mostly a mystery. What we do know is that the strain has been around since the 1980's and was originally grown in the Emerald Triangle area of northern California (Humboldt County). It is regularly referred to as "Purple Urple" and occasionally "The Urkle".
While most veteran cannabis growers in the Emerald Triangle region are generally tight-lipped about their strain hybrids and genetics, most growers assume Purple Urkle was the offspring of either Mendocino Purps or Granddaddy Purple.
Its effects, taste and smell are fairly consistent with most purple strains of marijuana when grown properly. Purple Urkle strain has a sweet and skunky smell generally containing the aromas of tropical fruit, grapes, fruity pebbles, and skunk. As with many heavy Indica strains, it's effects can be quite lethargic and relaxing making it an excellent strain for insomnia and anxiety. It is also used regularly for pain management and as an appetite stimulant.
Due to its sedating effects, it is best left for late evening or nighttime use. It has also been known to be a 'two-hitter-quitter' strain - meaning two hits is generally enough to get the full effects. With THC percentages well into the 20's we would recommend lower doses to start, especially for novice users.
Purple Urkle strain is a very slow-growing strain, especially when growing outdoors. When growing outside it generally takes a full 5 months to flower while flowering time indoors can be as quick as 8 weeks. As with many Indica's the strain remains fairly short and stocky with yields slightly lower than average. Expect 1-2 ounces per plant on an indoor grow and roughly 1/2 pound per plant on an outdoor grow.
Purple Urkle Marijuana Strain
The introduction of this medical marijuana strain can be dated back to the late 1980s. This is a Californian strain which is often classified as a classical strain. This is believed to be the phenotype of ' Granddaddy Purple'. However, this is most frequently referred to be the specific phenotype of ' Mendocino Purps'. This strain is identified by its purple nugs covered by longer orange hairs. Physically, purple urkle strain is typical of an Indica strain and is shorter, thicker and bushier. This is another clone-only strain dedicated to Californian dispensaries. This strain is found to be best grown indoors than outdoor. The aroma of this strain is skunky with minute hints of fruity aroma. With the THC and CBD of 18-21% and 0.36%, respectively, this strain tastes like grapes and sweet berries. The strong physical buzz given by this strain would alleviate the symptoms of muscle spasms, anxiety and nausea. The users of this strain reported that the indicia effects of this strain thoroughly relax and are sleep-inducing. Hence, this will be an ideal bedtime strain for those who are fighting insomnia.
The Purple Urkle Strain Genetics Are Highly Debated
As is often the case, the precise genetics of the Purple Urkle strain is often debated. It originated in the Emerald Triangle region of northern California, which has a reputation for keeping such knowledge within a small network.
It has been suggested that the Purple Urkle strain is a phenotype of Granddaddy Purple. However, the Purple Urkle strain is most often referred to as a specific phenotype of the Mendocino Purps strain that helped start the “purple craze” in California.
As of now, we are unable to determine exactly how different the Purple Urkle strain terpene profile is in comparison to Mendo Purps. Working with breeders, farmers, lab testing facilities, and the entire cannabis community, the Medical Jane team hopes to collect detailed information on each phenotype.
